Earlier in the week, it was announced that Daniel James would be attending last night's P:RP Firestorm. It appears his original intention was to offer the young P:RP assistance, however, when his offer was turned down, he spitefully purchased the company.
If there is good news for the situation, it is that none of the contracted employees will be out of a job. While many of the wrestlers and referees were on a pay per appearance for P:RP, such as RPW's own Sean Cain and Stewie Franchise, some were under contracts, including Shawn Kelley, Chris Deppe, Bodybag, MegaFreak, and Thomas Steele. Three of them, the tag team of Shawn Kelley and Chris Deppe, the Ruff Ryders, and monster Bodybag, will be the mysterious team that will take on Antonino Romano, Jason Dredd, and Kagerro on tonight's RPW Crossfire, and the entire contracted roster of P:RP will participate in the #1 Contenders Battle Royal that will take place at Black Monday in two weeks.
Also included in the transfer were Firestorm announcers, Ryan Bedford and John Haines. Haines will be making his return to RPW as he wrestled there under the name Mimic, and he is a former two-time World Champion and a former NeWA World Heavyweight Champion. Haines was forced to retire from wrestling after suffering a series of career ending concussions. There is no word as to what their positions or role within the company will be.
From a business standpoint, this is also great news for RPW. The influx of new talent will allow for new and exciting matches. RPW has always picked up the existing P:RP broadcast rights, allowing for RPW to air on the west coast, a region so far untouched by the RPW market, other than the airing of their supercards. It also leaves open the possibility for a west coast tour, officially making RPW more than just a regional fed, if it even was one to begin with.
September 10, 2008 - The office of RPW Majority Owner, Daniel James, issued a press release today that he will be flying to Arizona to attend P:RP's Firestorm on Thursday night.
Phone calls and e-mails have been left unanswered as to the nature of the visit, however, rumors are swirling, ranging from talks of a new WeWA pay per view to, with the political turmoil James is dealing with in RPW, the potential of James selling his shares of RPW in favor of backing P: RP. However, nothing has been confirmed.
Right now, all we know is that RPW owner Daniel James will be present at Firestorm. More on this breaking story as it develops.
August 24, 2008 - On the last Crossfire, Daniel James fired Commissioner Lefty Muggins at the end of the show. This seemed to be the culmination of a months long power struggle between James and Muggins, when James began to assert his power more and more.
However, it maybe Muggins who has the last laugh, as in what appears to his last act as Commissioner by not only making the main event at Black Monday Ricochet's first ever ladder match, but also adding Adam Heaton into the match, making it a four corners match, including RPW World Champion, Michael Cavenaugh, Diamond Mine, and Sean Cain.
Despite what happened at the end of Crossfire, Lefty Muggins may not be gone from RPW, as Daniel James apparantely does not have absolute power to hire and fire administrative employees, such as Commissioners. He would need a unanimous vote from his co-owners, Anthony Rigby and Melanie Cohen. A vote, he is rumored, not to have. We will have more on this story as it unfolds.
July 22, 2008 - Ricochet Pro Wrestling and RPW fed head, Robert / Mr. Nobody, were inducted into the 2008 Hall of Fame for Roughkut.com. The rest of the 2008 class included Whitecloud (RIP), Kirsta Lewis, and Georgie Nickles for E-Wrestler, VWF and EWO as the other two feds inducted this year, and RKW's Jack Hondo and VWF's Triple B as the rest of the fed head class.
This is the second annual Roughkut Hall of Fame induction, with the first class including CWA, T.F.W.F, and RKW as feds, Eric Withrow, Ian Monks, and Corey Page as fed heads, and Fallen Angel, Jag, and Jason Violent as wrestlers for the 2007 Hall of Fame induction.
Congratulations go out to all members of RPW for helping make this accomplishment happen. Thanks to all people who supported us in this, and let's continue to show why we were nominated in the first place.
July 19, 2008 - WeWA's latest pay per view, Collision, is officially in the books. Featuring superstars from all across the world, the night saw contraversy in the RPW World Championship match and the crowning of a new Cannibal Cup winner.
The RPW World Championship match pitted the man who has held the title for over a year, Michael "Snake Eyes" Cavenaugh against a legend in this business, Diamond Mine, a man who made a sudden return from retirement. Despite being arguably one of the best Ricochet matches fans have ever seen, the match ended with a double pinfall, and referee Jack Robinson declaring the World Title upheld. The two superstars and the fans were not happy with this decision, but the referee stood by it, handing the matter over to RPW Commissioner Lefty Muggins. No word on what will be done with the title, but Lefty Muggins is said he will address both wrestlers and the fans on the next RPW Crossfire, scheduled for August 1st.
In the Cannibal Cup finale saw a match that was the first of its kind. Dubbed a Cannibal Cage Match, saw a closed cage, wrapped in barbed wire. The four superstars, Sean Cain, La Sombra, Adam Heaton, and Kai Kennedy, who made it into this monstrosity, first had to escape the barbed wire hell, and then climb to the top of the cage, climb a ladder, and grab the Cannibal Cup hanging from a hook. The match saw many minor injuries come from from it, but in the end, "The American Nightmare" Sean Cain, one of the most hated men in Ricochet Pro Wrestling, was holding the cup in victory.
With Collision in the bag, the three feds that make up the WeWA go back to focusing on their individual feds, as the Future Wrestling League and Project: Rising Phoenix begin the anticipation to their first shows, and Ricochet Pro Wrestling begins their final US schedule before returning to the United Kingdom.
With the huge success of this latest WeWA event, there is already talks about when the next WeWA event will be held, and whether it will finally crown the elusive WeWA World Heavyweight Championship.
Only time will tell.
June 19, 2008 - Former NeWA World Heavyweight Champion, Diamond Mine, who many believed was retired from the industry, has officially signed a contract with Ricochet Pro Wrestling.
Diamond Mine was one of the leading superstars in the HWA and the NeWA, defeating Mimic to keep the NeWA World Heavyweight Championship in the NeWA after Ricochet and Mimic left the organization last year. He would later retire vacating the title.
After several months in retirement, Diamond Mine suddenly came out of retirement, attacking and costing current Ricochet World Heavyweight Champion, Michael "Snake Eyes" Cavenaugh, a spot in the upcoming WeWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. RPW Co-Owner Daniel James then announced that Diamond Mine would be the one facing Michael Cavenaugh for the RPW World Title at the upcoming WeWA multi-promotional pay per view, Collision.
This is the second huge signing in a week's time that Ricochet has announced, the first being the previously reported signing of "The Genetic Beast" Kai Kennedy.
Diamond Mine's signing, while known about by ownership for several weeks now, was kept secret from everyone including RPW Commissioner Lefty Muggins, who found out with everyone else of his signing at last night's Crossfire.
Michael Cavenaugh and Diamond Mine will come face to face on the next Crossfire on June 2nd when they will officially sign the contract for their big RPW World Title match at Collision.
June 12, 2008 - In a surprise move, RPW Co-Owner, Daniel James, held a press conference outside his office in Sueno Beach, Florida. He had several things on his mind during the press conference, but started out by giving Ricochet's first statement concerning Antonino Romano's recent shooting.
"We were shocked at the shooting of Antonino Romano and his brother, Santino Romano, who wrestles for our sister organization, Eastern Australian Wrestling. We hope for a quick recovery and return and are willing to give him the time needed to make a full recovery.
"However, at this point, it is unknown how much time his recovery will take, so at this point, I am vacating the Trans-Atlantic Championship. The title will not be vacated for long though, as I am officially making the Battle Royal for the Trans-Atlantic Championship."
James was not finished as he said the original purpose of the battle royal had nothing to do with the Trans-Atlantic Championship.
"I originally ordered the battle royal to decide who will be allowed to qualify for the WeWA World Title Tournament, and that is still its primary purpose, the Trans-Atlantic Title is just an added bonus. The last seven superstars to be in the battle royal will be part of WeWA World Title Qualifying Matches on the following Crossfire, with their opponents being decided by the order of eliminations."
He also fielded questions concerning his controversial time in the IWA, which got its start in Sueno Beach where he now resides, his rivalry with IWA owner Robert Chauncey, who passed away in 2001, the contract dispute with Bryan Willett, and the recent power struggle between him and RPW Commissioner Lefty Muggins.
June 10, 2008 - With the sudden release of Kelly Brae, that leaves Buzz Stone as the only announcer at the broadcast table. At the moment, nothing is set in stone, no pun intended, as to what will happen at the broadcast position.
Some believe that Buzz Stone does a fine job by himself and does not actually need someone to play off of. He has had to do the show by himself several times through-out the years, and has received no complaints, however, he has never done it for an extended period of time. Ricochet would not be the first wrestling federation to go with the one man broadcast team, as ECW did it very successfully with Joey Styles for many years.
Another school of thought is giving the job back to Mark Foster, current ring announcer for RPW. Foster was in the position after Slick Stevens left the company, however, was demoted after making several mistakes and replaced with Kelly Brae. Foster took the demotion with little complaint and has been happy in his role as the ring announcer, however, his ultimate goal is to return to the broadcast position, and he could very well be in line to return to it.
One rumor that can be stopped is the return of Slick Stevens. Stevens has not been with the company in over a year, having left the company during the Hector Rodriguez Commissionership. He now serves as Head of Public Relations for the WeWA Council, and has no interest in stepping down from that position to fill the void. In a statement to reporters he said.
"I have fond memories of Ricochet and working with Buzz, but I love where I'm at now. While I won't rule out a one night only type of deal, there is little chance that I will return to it in a full time capacity."
Another name that has been brought-up is that of retired Ricochet superstar, Mimic, who retired three months ago due to multiple injuries, including several concussions. Mimic was always considered good on the mic, and still shares a good relationship with RPW's front office. While it is not out of the question, a Mimic return at the broadcast booth is considered very unlikely.
